Hey Reader,

For the past several weeks inside of our community, we have been dissecting a story in Second Kings about a widow, deep in debt, with a creditor coming for her two sons, cries out to the prophet Elisha, and he asks her one question: “Tell me, what do you have in your house?” She answers, “Your servant has nothing there at all, except a small jar of olive oil.” (2 Kings 4:2, NIV)

Even though she perceived the jar being small, she borrowed man empty jars, shut the door and poured, and the oil kept flowing until the last jar was full.

This Sunday, we finish our exploration of this story with The Vessel Effect, which is a phenomena that a lot of us skip right past. Before she poured a single drop, she told the truth about where she stood and stayed present, yet expectant. Presence came first, and the miracle revealed itself as a result.

So much of what we want in life comes down to a yes: the yes to the raise or promotion we ask for, the yes from the partner we want to feel close to again, the yes from our children when we need them to hear us, the yes from the room when we share an idea at work, and the yes we finally give ourselves when we hold a boundary with love. What if the key to every one of those was presence? People respond to presence before they respond to proof. On Sunday we’ll explore what that looks like in our conversations, our relationships, our work and every room we walk into.
